{the technicolor olive oil bar at our neighborhood supermarket, alfalfa’s}
this time most of all is the ‘summer’ i refer to when i speak so sparklingly of it in the dark recesses of the winter.
this wonderful time that is still saturated in sunshine and warmth
and steeped in hazy twilights, lazy mornings, and the expectation that there are
little expectations at all in the in-between.
friday nights that are full of laughter and live music,
relaxing at our favorite brewery with bluegrass picking, beer drinking, and the lightness that comes along with it being just the beginning.
saturday mornings woken only by the sunshine peering it’s curious rays under the drawn drapes, and the scent of coffee wafting out of our french press.
(and the thoughtful husband that let me enjoy each of those.)
zipping down to the farmer’s market perched on the backseat of the vespa,
somehow managing to hold on to our impressive haul on the way home.
a special mile-stone for a dear friend’s adorable newly minted one-year old,
a burrito bar, white wine with girlfriends, and lots of cute nuggets bouncing around the room.
the high point of course?
singing the sweet baby happy birthday, and watching her respond to her first bites of (gluten-free, natural sugar) carrot cake with wide-eyes and a four-toothed grin.
our week-long visit babysitting a happy four-legged friend sadly drew to a close, but with it came a much welcomed all-day visit from two of our closest friends, his parents.
a day spent in boulder, for a lunch, then a dinner,
and plenty of down-time in the middle to pinch two of the cutest chubby cheeks.
a sunday of ice cream making, book reading, recipe fine-tuning,
and pork chop frying,
interrupted only for a long night of work at the restaurant.
after all of this, collapsing thankfully into bed next to one snoring pug (or was that the husband?),
and feeling very thankful for such a nice time.
